The Wyoming
Players would like to thank everyone who attended shows during our previous seasons and hope
to see all of you again in the future. Our 2009-2010
has been posted in our Current Season section.
The Wyoming Players present the world premiere of
“It Doesn’t Get Any Deeper Than This” written by Bridgid Slivken and directed by
Dee Dunn. This play is set in a memory support unit of a
nursing home and explores how Alzheimer’s disease affects the lives of the
residents, their caregivers, and their family members. It is
a slice of life piece filled with plenty of humor and pathos.
It is a play that most will identify with as nearly every American
has been affected in some way, directly or indirectly, by dementia.
Many of the actors found themselves struggling as the dialogue and
behaviors exhibited by the characters hit very close to home and
reminded them in some way of a loved one.
This play is educational, entertaining, thought-provoking, but most of
all it is a straight-on the mark accurate portrayal of living with
dementia.
About the group:
The Wyoming Players claim the distinction of being the
oldest active community theatre
group in Ohio.
Today Wyoming is a conveniently located Cincinnati
suburb, but in 1885 local residents could reach the city and its cultural
attractions only by an hour long train- ride or a daylong trip by horse and
buggy. In that year a group of local performers gathered in Wyoming's two-room
schoolhouse to present "The Dowager", an English comedy of manners by Charles Matthews. After several changes of both name and
venue, the spiritual descendants of that group are today's Wyoming Players. This non-profit
group continues to this day, offering several productions each
year.

Wyoming Players. She has been extremely active in Community Theater for the past
five years. Most recently, she directed a science fiction
play for the group by Megan Terry entitled “Home.” Ms. Dunn
has won numerous awards for both acting and directing. In her
spare time, Ms. Dunn is an attorney and works in the field of legal
publishing.
About the playwright:
Bridgid Slivken is a registered nurse and licensed nursing home administrator. This play
is based upon her recollections of working in a specialized
dementia care unit of a nursing home in the early 1990s. Ms.
Slivken has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Miami University and a Master’s degree in Health
Services Administration from Xavier University. This play is a
labor of love and a culmination of her years of witnessed stories and
experiences. It was written as a tribute to all of those
whose lives are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and
to their caregivers, both professional and personal.
